It is no mystery that Coyhaique is the capital of Fly Fishing in Patagonia. Few other places can offer a variety of waters like this in such close range. Season goes from October to May and every month has something special to offer, being December through March the dry fly prime time with January and February as the months with the best weather.
Brown trout dominate these waters but you can also find a fair number of rainbows and fewer Chinook, Coho and Atlantic salmon. January and February are known for the steady dry fly action as beetles, hoppers, mayflies and caddis hatch heavily during these months of the year.
The areas we visit from the lodge are located as close as 25 minutes or as far as 2 hours depending on the fish we are targeting and weather conditions. For those not afraid of putting some work into their fishing we can show them even more remote waters that will probably pay for the sacrifice producing some truly fine fish.
Vista Patagonia Lodge offers a solid fishing experience at a great location. The lodge is modern, comfortable and has a fun atmosphere that will make you feel like home.
7 nights 6 days of fishing ( Sunday to Sunday, all inclusive) is the program we suggest as it will allow you to sample a little of everything this country has to offer, from spring creeks in the Patagonian Steppe to larger freestone rivers in the Temperate Rain Forest.
Day 1: Airport pickup and drive to the lodge. Welcome cocktail and dinner. We go over the plan for the week and get things ready for the next day.
Day 2 to 6: Every morning we choose the fishing spot for the day according to the guides advice base on weather conditions and guests preferences. We of course fish classic waters like Simpson, Paloma, Ñirehuao, Mañihuales and Emperador Guillermo River, but also some other hidden gems that we keep to ourselves and our guests to enjoy. Stillwaters are part of our program as well, beign probably the best place to land a monster fish; not a fan of lake fishing? Wait until you see how our browns hunt for bugs on the Surface while cruising shallow flats: a visual delight.
Day 7: Morning fishing session or a visit to downtown Coyhaique for some souvenir shopping. Luggage pickup and drop off at the airport.
We understand how critical is to have an experienced guide with you: knowing the waters, finding fish, positioning the boat properly, suggesting the right approach and fly are aspects that every good guide should manage, that is the reason why we only work with the best experienced guides in the area to ensure your time is well spent.
We love to have fun in the water, but we are serious when the opportunity to cast to a good fish comes up. Come visit us and let us show you what we know.
