About The Area:

It is no mystery that Coyhaique is the capital of Fly Fishing in Patagonia. Few other places in the world can boast the array of majestic waters in such close proximity. Our season goes from October to May, with something special to offer each and every month. December through March is the the dry fly prime time! January and February allow for the best weather.

The Fishing:

Brown trout dominate our Chilean waters but you can also find a fair number of rainbows, fewer Chinook, Coho and Atlantic salmon. January and February are known for the steady dry fly action as beetles, hoppers, mayflies and caddis hatch heavily during these months of the year.

The waterways we fish can be as close as 25 minutes away or as far as two hours, depending on the fish we are targeting and weather conditions. For those anglers not afraid of putting some work into their fishing, we can show you even more remote, pristine waters that will likely produce some truly fine fish.

Simpson river canyon is home to large brown trout.

The Experience:

Vista Patagonia Lodge offers a solid fishing experience at a great location. Our lodge is modern, rustic and comfortable with a fun atmosphere that will make you feel at home.

Our guided experience is a 7-night, 6-day fishing (Sunday to Sunday, all inclusive) program that will allow you to sample a little of everything this country has to offer: from spring creeks in the Patagonian Steppe to tranquil lakes and larger freestone rivers in the temperate rainforest.

Day 1: Airport pickup and arrival at lodge. Welcome cocktail and dinner. We'll go over the plan for the week and get things ready for the next day and your first day of fly fishing in Patagonia, Chile!

Day 2 through 6: Every morning we choose the fishing spot for the day according to the guides advice based on weather conditions and guests preferences. We fish many of the larger (and better known) rivers in the area, like the Simpson, Paloma, Ñirehuao, Mañihuales and Emperador Guillermo, but also some other hidden gems that we keep to ourselves and our guests to enjoy. Stillwaters are part of our program as well, likely being the best place to land a monster fish! Not a fan of lake fishing? Wait until you see how our browns hunt for bugs on the surface while cruising shallow flats: a true visual delight. Once back from your fly fishing excursion for the day, relax with an adult beverage at the lodge and enjoy a delicious, chef-prepared dinner with stunning views out of our picture windows. One evening, you will experience the flavors of our homemade pizza in our wood-fired pizza oven!

Day 7: Morning fishing session or a visit to downtown Coyhaique for some souvenir shopping. Luggage pickup and dropoff at the airport.

Guides:

We understand how critical is to have an experienced guide with you. Knowing the waters, finding fish, positioning the boat properly, suggesting the right approach and fly are aspects that every good guide should manage. We only work with the best experienced guides in the area to ensure your experience is first-class.

We love to have fun in the water, but we are serious when the opportunity to cast to a good fish comes up. Come visit us and let us show you an epic fly fishing experience at the Vista Patagonia Lodge.
